这组照片选自意大利人费利斯·比托（Felice Beato）跟随英法联军攻占北京时所拍摄，他是英国军队的战地摄影师，被誉为“军事报道摄影的先驱者之一”。这组照片即为他在北京时拍摄，是目前我们所能见到的最早的关于北京的老照片。
